Washers And Dryers All Over The House

The way Americans live and perform their daily chores is constantly changing and evolving to keep up with the latest developments, trends and technologies.

One new trend that we are seeing in many homes throughout the country is having multiple sets of washing machines and dryers, or at least bringing these appliances up from the basement and into other parts of the home that are easier to get to.

A February 7, 2007 article by Christina S.N. Lewis of The Wall Street Journal, “Loads of laundry: washers and dryers all over the house,” looks into the latest trend that is taking over the real estate world.

It seems as these new trends goes right in-line with Americans’ way of life that involves as little movement and work as possible. Not to say that everyone who is following these trends are lazy; maybe just busy.

Jodie Galland, of Provo, Utah is one such busy mother who has installed a separate set of washing machines and dryers into each of her four children’s’ walk-in closets in order to cut down on the time she spends tramping around the house with baskets of laundry.

She is quite happy with the outcome so far.

“Here's another sign that some Americans will spend a little more to walk a little less: They're outfitting their homes with multiple laundries or stashing extra machines in closets, pantries and family rooms.”

“There are no statistics on how many households have more than one laundry space, but builders and interior designers say the practice is growing, especially as homes get bigger and baby boomers get older.”

But many home-building companies are addressing what new homeowners want and are building homes with more than one laundry rooms, or with the machines that are in unconventional locations.

Just be ready to pay the price.

“The developers of Isleworth, a 274-home gated community in Windermere, Fla. (residents include Tiger Woods and Shaquille O'Neal), feature dual laundries in five out of six spec homes available. For instance, the 10,000-square-foot Bellagio model, listed for $8.5 million, includes six bedrooms, a wine cellar and two laundries -- one on the first floor and another next to the master-bedroom suite. Indianapolis-based C.P. Morgan, which builds about 3,000 homes a year, started offering the second-laundry option three years ago.”

What homeowners want, they will get.

There are various reasons why a homeowner would want to rethink the current location of their laundry room, or upgrade to an additional laundry room.

“Some homeowners say they're sick of lugging clothes from one end of the house to another, a hike in some of today's enormous homes. Others want separate machines for separate tasks -- one set near the master bedroom, say, for delicate personal items, and another for heavy-duty family loads.”

Whatever your needs and wants are, you probably will have no trouble finding a home builder or contractor who can meet all of your laundry desires.
